This study was conducted for Materials and Reliability in Oil Sands (MARIOS), a consortium consisting of forty one (41) oil sands operators and suppliers. The goal of the study is to establish operating envelopes taking into consideration the environmental conditions present in oil sands water treatment systems, and provide material design guidelines through review of current technologies, practices and operators experiences. It is anticipated that the corrosion assessment results will lead to a design of corrosion control strategies for Canadian thermal oil sands WTS. The current paper presents a study on corrosivity of produced water and make-up water on UNS G10180 carbon steel in simulated in-situ thermal operations.

Key words: downloadable, Produced water, Brackish water, Sweet corrosion, Oil Sands, SAGD, CSS.
