We have developed an integrated reference electrode (RE) which design was based on a metal and metal oxide (M/O) RE for reactor environment monitoring.

Although a traditional M/O RE has experiences used in laboratory and actual reactor environment it has low mechanical durability and high operation temperature.

We cannot utilize it for long term monitoring at wide range temperature.

So we selected a combination of Ni / NiO as a suitable solid electrolyte of integrated RE because the potential of Ni / NiO RE was independent of the ratio of Ni to NiO.

We composed an integrated RE prototype with sputter - deposited NiO and yttria stabilized zirconia thin films on the Ni disk.

A pH response of the integrated RE prototype was observed in buffer solutions at room temperature.

We found that the integrated RE prototype can operate at room temperature and has little sensitivity for redox condition.
