Corrosion-resistant-enhanced stainless steel OCTG of 17Cr is discussed in terms of sweet and sweet-sour environments in comparison with martensitic API-13Cr 13Cr-mod. 15Cr and duplex 22Cr or 25Cr.
Especially in CO2 corrosion the application limit temperature is 230deg.C (450deg.F) in 17Cr which shows the highest temperature compared with 130deg.C (270deg.F) in API-13Cr 165deg.C (330deg.F) in 13Cr-mod. 200deg.C (390deg.F) in 15Cr. Other corrosion data in 17Cr such as SSC and pitting resistance also represent better corrosion-resistant characteristics than any other martensitic stainless OCTGs of 13Cr 13Cr-mod. and 15Cr.
In addition metallographically OCTG of 17Cr is composed mainly of martensite and ferrite with retained austenite. Therefore 17Cr as well as martensitic stainless steel OCTGs has high-strength at room temperature without any cold-working-based strengthening seen in duplex 22Cr or 25Cr and also keep high-temperature-strength high even at 100 to 250 deg.C (212 to 482 deg.F) while duplex 22Cr and 25Cr sharply drop it due to release of their cold-working-based strains.
