Shop primer coated film is easily attached by the penetration of cutting fumes and the residual cutting fumes cannot be completely removed by blast cleaning in the ship yard. Therefore additional power tool cleaning is required to remove residual cutting fumes before coating application. In this study the establishment of the surface preparation criteria on the fume attached steel surface was performed by means of coating performance evaluation as the degree of the cutting fume attachment with 6 grades 100%(G1) to 0%(G6). From the test results even though the cutting fumes remain on the surface the coating does not lose its original adhesion property on the surface comparing to where cutting fumes not remain. All panels were good condition without the concentration rate fume according to sea water immersion test for 6 months and the higher residual rate of fume showed the better rust creep resistance from the salt spray test for 1000 and 2000hours.
