It is very profitable to apply CRA’s (corrosion resistant alloys) for sour environment. Molybdenum element has been efficiently added to conventional alloy to have its corrosion resistance. The new CRA material which is Mo free content has been developed for relatively milder sour condition considering “fitness for purpose” use and to save alloy cost. Copper element was actively used as alternative corrosion resistant element instead of Mo. Alloying Cu made the new material keep corrosion resistance in sour environment and save the cost of material. Evaluating by SSRT and long term C-ring test the new CRA showed no crack at elevated temperature on the combined Cl- pH sour condition. In addition both pitting and crevice corrosion did not occur in this condition. To discuss about corrosion resistance of the material surface film was analyzed after the corrosion test. Stability of surface film will be discussed by estimating E-pH diagram solubility of corrosion products and surface analysis results.
