The present work proposes a novel approach to rank the compatibility of neat products with stainless steel from the pitting corrosion point of view by the implementation of accelerated electrochemical tests instead of the conventional immersion tests. A potentiostatic ASTM G150-97 test (Standard Test Method for Electrochemical Critical Pitting Temperature Testing of Stainless Steel) is standardized for this purpose. In this study a modified version of G-150 is used in combination with the cyclic polarization scans. The primary modification in this test uses neat inhibitor instead of the standard 1M-NaCl solution required in the ASTM G-150 method. The cyclic polarization results indicate that 316LSS has better resistance to pitting corrosion attack when is in contact with either Inhibitor A or Inhibitor B as compared to the solution NaCl. The CPT in the range of 400-500 mV for 316LSS in Inhibitor A and Inhibitor B are 65°C and 98ºC respectively.
