A novel corrosion rate monitor that can be externally mounted on a boiler wall tube has been designed,
manufactured and installed. The design of this corrosion monitoring system, which is based on the
principle of hydrogen effusion, allowed for the analysis of boiler tube corrosion rates at the Coleson
Cove Generating Station located at Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. The present paper describes
the success of the installation and its potential use as an on-line, real-time corrosion monitor for
industrial boiler tubes.
