DC interference of cathodic protection system on adjacent buried pipelines is a big threat to pipeline integrity. In northwest of China a pigging station transporting natural gas has been reconstructed and expanded to be a compressor station during years. Some newly buried pipelines and grounding metal were too close (about 10 meters) to the already installed impress anode for the main line outside the compressor station. As a result a typical DC interference was discovered. In order to protect the pipelines buried in the compressor station regional cathodic protection was applied the outcome was satisfactory.
