Within the petroleum production industry, there has been a scarcity of performance data based on field experience in the use of sucker rods. Most of the data available have been based on laboratory tests conducted in air or in synthetic brines; these data are then adjusted to compensate for the more stringent requirements encountered in field service for sucker rods.
This NACE standard test method addresses the need for field performance data on sucker rods. This standard describes a test procedure that has been used to compare the performance of different types and grades of sucker rods in the same environment. This test procedure is commonly called a "mixed-string test." This test procedure can be applied to both steel and reinforced plastic sucker rods.
This standard was originally prepared in 1975 by NACE Task Group T-1F-11. a component of Unit Committee T-1F on Metallurgy of Oilfield Equipment. It was reaffirmed by T-1F in 1989 and again in 1995, and is issued by NACE International under the auspices of Group Committee T-1 on Corrosion Control in Petroleum Production.
1.1 This standard can be used to evaluate the performance of the classes, types, or special designs of sucker rod couplings and sucker rods.
1.2 This standard describes the procedure for testing sucker rods in field service to compare the performance of different types and grades of sucker rods in the same environment and under essentially the same dynamic conditions.
