This presentation is designed to provide the details that must be considered when tackling the application of polyaspartic liquids, including crew training, crew personnel selection, work area organization, environmental conditions, application techniques and unique applications.
Polyaspartic coatings can offer excellent performance characteristics typically expected of SSPC Specification Number 36, Level 3, for Aliphatic Polyurethane Topcoats. In addition, polyaspartates will pass an industry standard for corrosion protection in medium corrosivity environments direct to metal. These features offer the typical industrial maintenance customer high performance for gloss and color retention, while reducing application time and costs.

Recent advances in the realm of polyaspartic ester finish coat technology have led to significant improvements in their aesthetic and corrosion resistance properties. Of particular interest is an initial comparison of the aesthetic properties of older and new generation polyaspartic ester finishes with both polyurethanes and isocyanate-free polysiloxane finishes.
These case studies are presented demonstrating the cost savings and performance of one-coat direct-to-metal (DTM) and two-coat polyaspartic exterior coatings of three industrial maintenance applications involving hopper railcars, bridges, and an exposed steel beam superstructure. In each example, the rapid cure time of the polyaspartic coating provided increased productivity to complement its documented high performance.
