In 2006 a review of corrosion monitoring and inspection technologies for use in oil and gas facilities in CO2 and/or H2S corrosive environments was presented at the NACE annual conference (NACE Paper 06120). Almost ten years has passed and there have been important developments in both monitoring and inspection technologies in regards to their application and usage in oil and gas production facilities. This paper will provide an overview of these developments and their relative benefits and disadvantages to help corrosion and inspection engineers determine which technique(s) provide the most cost effective value. The benefits of using a mixture of monitoring and inspection techniques to provide both tactical (short term) and strategic (long term) information will be discussed.
