As part of the national research project OWS-MV (Offshore Wind Solutions-MecklenburgVorpommern), investigations were carried out to assess effects of mechanical stresses on the corrosion protection performance of coatings for offshore wind turbines (OWEA). In order to simulate typical damage mechanisms during transport and assembly of OWEA, compression, impact and abrasion tests and corrosion resistance tests were performed on laboratory scales.

At present, there were ten common crossing modes in long-distance oil and gas pipelines[1,2]. There were six ways of tunneling, such as large excavation, horizontal directional drilling, shield tunnel, drilling and blasting tunnel, ramming pipe and pipe jacking. For certain CCS (carbon capture and storage) projects, ship transport of captured CO2 to the storage site may prove more optimal than pipeline transport. The CO2 will be transported under two-phase conditions at low temperature (-10 to -25 °C) and moderate pressure (1.7 – 2.7 MPa), which are quite different from the typical pipeline transport conditions (5 – 60 °C and 7 – 12 MPa). Corrosion under pipeline conditions has been relatively well studied, and several conditions (impurity mixtures) that results in formation of corrosive acids have been identified. In contrast, almost no research exists on corrosion under ship transport conditions when the CO2 contains impurities. The present work tested corrosion of carbon steel at -25°C in CO2 with different concentrations of H2O, H2S, O2, NO2 and SO2. The experiments demonstrated that certain combinations of impurities gave no chemical reactions and no corrosion, while other combinations resulted in formation of solids and corrosive components that attacked carbon steel. The mass loss corrosion rate was around 0.1 mm/y.

Concrete is the most widely used construction material and can be durable for hundreds of years; however the largest cause of concrete deterioration is due to corrosion of reinforcing steel.Steel is thermodynamically unstable and will eventually oxidize to a lower energy state.The rate of deterioration in existing structures can be modeled to predict the service life of a given structure based on the service environment concrete quality chloride ingress carbonation depth corrosion rate measurements and other factors to various degrees of success. Service life is defined as the remaining useful time for a structure based on the current deterioration rate without repairs.This paper will provide an overview of many of the service life models in use and provide an evaluation protocol for their application.

The manuscript reports about the corrosion resistance and anodizability of a family of recycled EN AC-43200 Aluminum alloys comprising a different Fe/Mn content. Linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), metallography and electrochemical noise measurements (ENM) are used to study the correlation between the microstructure of the investigated materials, the anodizability of the alloy and the corrosion protection capability of the obtained anodic layers. It is demonstrated that the presence of acicular Iron-based intermetallic precipitates within the alloy matrix, together with a high surface Silicon concentration is responsible for a poor thickness homogeneity of the obtained anodic layers and a poor corrosion resistance. The detrimental effect of Iron can be mitigated by the addition of Manganese which acts as a precipitate-shape modifier thus enabling the growth of homogeneous and protective anodic layers. The manuscript provides key information to be used in the selection of materials for future applications based on recycled cast Aluminum/Silicon (AlSi) alloys.

UNS S31600 is usually selected for pipes to be applied under conditions where cleanliness is an essential factor. As the lines around Sulfate Removal Unit (SRU) have this requirement (considering the membranes sensibility to any debris), it is common to find this alloy as the preferred one in the material selection criteria for systems like this in Floating Production Storage and Offloading units (FPSO) where the deaerator tower is upstream the SRU, with the role to limit the oxygen content up to 10 ppb in the seawater.

Although the selection of UNS S31600 agrees with ISO 21457 and NORSOK M-001 for this part of seawater treatment system (Figure 1), in 2019 several pits were noticed at pipes downstream the SRU in a FPSO being operated at Brazil Santos basin.

In carbon dioxide capture and storage, CO2 emitted from various industries containing impurities is captured and injected underground in dense or supercritical phase through tubings. In order to evaluate corrosion resistances of materials in the supercritical CO2 with a slight amount of O2, corrosion tests were performed under the conditions of 5 mass% NaCl equilibrium with CO2, containing with the various amount of O2 at total pressure of 130 bar and 100 °C. Super Martensitic Stainless Steel (UNS S41426), Duplex Stainless Steel (UNS S82551), and Super Duplex Stainless Steel (UNS S39274) were evaluated. Localized corrosion was observed in S41426 at conditions higher than 200ppm O2 (0.026 bar O2 partial pressure) condition. On the other hand, S82551 and S39274 showed good corrosion resistance in the same condition. As for S82551, it suffered from localized corrosion at 1000ppm O2 (0.13 bar O2) condition. However, in the actual O2 concentrations, it is considered that S82551 and S39274 are suitable materials even if formation water flow back has occurred.
