NACE Corrosion-2017 ConferenceNew Orleans LAMarch 26-30 2017Symposium: Pipeline Crossings: Steel-Cased Thrust-Bored and HDDTitle: Alternative method for recording data on Thrust-Bored pipeAbstract:An alternative method to record the potential shift when performing a coating conductance test outlined in NACE TM0102-02 is proposed. This method utilizes an oscilloscope rather than a digital multimeter to capture the potential shift when performing the applied current method. This procedure was developed for short sections of bored pipeline where it was found that the potential shift and subsequent polarization decay occurred in a timeframe less than the digital multimeter could display. Results obtained for reported coating conductance values are compared with those recorded using a digital multimeter. Utilizing the oscilloscope proved to be an effective method for determining the potential shift of a short bored section of pipe where the rate of polarization decay posed an issue.Authors:Levi Blumhagen Corrpro Companies Inc.Jeffrey Delorme Corrpro Companies Inc.Kevin Sunderman Corrpro Companies Inc.Keywords:Coating conductance potential shift digital multimeter bored oscilloscope applied current polarization decay.

Key words: bore, coating conductance, fall of potential test, horizontal directional drill, oscilloscope, polarization decay, potential measurement, reactance
