Actual NACE TM0177 standard allows the use of Electro Discharge Machined (EDM) and chevron specimens for evaluation of Sulfide Stress Cracking (SSC) resistance of Low Alloy Carbon Steels. A 0.3mm/0.01 inch thickness is defined for EDM slot without specifying tolerances and recommending a rounded or beveled for the slot end in order to avoid side-arm breakoff.SSC resistance expressed as KISSC relays on the fact that crack is not only initiated but also that crack growth initiation is equivalent and highly consistent for EDM and chevron specimens for all selected environments. It is the aim of this work to study how machining variables of EDM process affect KISSC of C110 tested at room temperature with 0.07 and 1 bar pressure of H2S. Finally KISSC obtained with EDM specimens is compared with the one obtained using chevron precracked and non-precracked specimens.
