This paper will identify the necessary design considerations for evaluating and calculating the Cathodic Protection (CP) attenuation and expected anode life vs. design life for partially buried subsea pipelines. Historically these types of CP systems were usually designed for either buried or exposed pipeline and anode conditions. Other design concepts were to consider the pipeline as being exposed or un-buried while considering the anodes as being completely buried. This paper will discuss the methods necessary to evaluate the pipeline CP system performance for all burial conditions.
