The intermetallic-based alloys for high-temperature applications are introduced. General characteristics of interrnetallics are followed by identification of nickel and iron aluminizes as the most practical alloys for commercial applications. An overview of the alloy compositions, melting processes, and mechanical properties for nickel and iron aluminizes are presented. The current applications and commercial producers of nickel and iron aluminizes are given. A brief description of the future prospects of intermetallic-based alloys is also given.
