The growth of an aerobic bacteria such as sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB) produces dramatic changes in the mild steel/solution interface which include variations of the redox potential and pH values, an ions and cations concentrations and the composition and structure of in organic layers, among others. Complex equilibria between differention compounds are established. The see quilibria remarkedly altered during bacterial growth. As a first aproach to the understanding of the complex scenario at the biofilm/surface interface, electrochemical techniques including different perturbation programs complemented by microscopic observations and chemical analysis of the corrosion products were made in the laboratory, Thus the aim of this work is to study the influence of pH, sulfide, sulfate, and iron ions concentrations on the electrochemical processes occurring at the interface to achieve a better understanding of the transformations produceduring SRB growth.
