Developments in the area of corrosion research have led to predictive methodologies that have very specific applicability and relevance. This has led to a need for development of predictive methods and tools that can be used under a wide variety of conditions relevant to oil and gas production. A hierarchical approach has been used to combine available knowledge and data into a compact and accurate computer model that can be used as a prediction tool under different conditions. The tool is a
stand-alone PC application, developed using principles of object-oriented programming and implemented using widely accepted sotlware development methods. The resulting computer model is user-friendly, shows a strong correlation with observed corrosion rates for wells with and without H2S,and facilitates simulation of potential corrosivity in a production well.
