This paper reports the development and application of a novel test method for evaluating
corrosion inhibitors under erosion-corrosion conditions.
A rotating coupon is spun at high speed in a high weight percent sand slurry for a duration of
20 hours. The chosen conditions of the test determine the applicable wear modes and from
gravimetric analysis a metal loss rate can be calculated.
The test method has demonstrated that all three control conditions; erosion, corrosion and
erosion-corrosion can be created in the laboratory and that when testing under the erosioncorrosion
conditions the synergy, as reported in the field, is present.
