Durrat AI Bahrain is a luxury seaside city resort, located on the south coast of Bahrain, it will include 13 ditlerent islands with over 2,000 villas, more than 3,000 apartments, luxury hotels and restaurants. The 13 islands are joined together by 13 architectural bridges with a total length of approximately 3.5krn. The bridges were originally conceived to be built using stainless steel reinforcement. Very high construction costs led the consultant to explore other techniques for increasing the durability of the bridges and Cathodic Protection was considered. One of the main disadvantages was the owners' reluctance to take on the high perceived maintenance activities associated with CP on such large
structures.
