Corrosion control technology adopted in the previous sour gas development projects in China includes using low strength seamless steel pipes with corrosion inhibitor, dehydrating centralized or in single well to provide dry gas for transportation, etc. For corrosion control of sour gas gathering pipelines, two types of acid resistant internal coating have been developed in the authors’ Laboratory. One is cold applied and cured at room temperature, and the other is cold applied but baked at high temperatures for each layer. Both acid resistant internal coatings have excellent salt fog resistance of over 4000 hours, various acid resistance at 70??, and oil-field waste water resistance; as well as very good H2S/CO2 corrosion resistance under the test condition with total pressure of 9 MPa, H2S partial pressure of 1.5 MPa, CO2 partial pressure of 1.5 MPa, and temperature of 70??. Furthermore, plant application processes for internal pipe coatings, and the internal field joint coating have also been formulated. A new internal anti-corrosion technology is developed for sour gas gathering pipelines.
