When ordering corrosion-resistant alloys, acceptance tests are often specified. Most of these tests are
covered in the ASTM handbooks, but they are also often misused. The acceptance tests, in many cases
do not correlate to fitness for use in the intended service. Certain tests are established to check the heat
treatment of the material while others can find secondary phase or compositional deficiencies. This
paper will discuss six common acceptance tests including their proper use and possible misuse.
