Several new developments in explosion clad technology of reactive and refractory metals offer significant cost reduction for highly corrosion-resistant chemical processing industry (CPI) equipment . These developments include: 1) technology for manufacturing large tantalum clad plates which are double traditional size, 2) simultaneous bonding of a beneficial interlayer with higher strength zirconium or titanium grades, and 3) qualification of the bonding process for producing Ti-0.1Ru
Grade 27 clad plate product. These developments and their commercial implications are discussed.
