Both calcium nitrate and calcium nitrite may act as anodic inhibitors against chloride induced corrosion of rebars in concrete through a similar mechanism, although the kinetics of reaction may be different. Recently an extended test programme was launched for direct comparison of inhibitor performance of calcium nitrate versus nitrite at equimolar dosage, in addition to comparison of the inhibitors against a reference concrete without inhibitor addition. The test program and strategy are described in detail. Specimens are still only 1 years old, so examples of inhibitor performance are taken from earlier simple tests.
