Selection of corrosion control options for new development projects can be constrained by various factors, all of which must be considered. For example, the economic regime the project is working under can play a major part. Costs may be evalued on the basis of life cycle costs or capital costs alone. Other common issues are planning of long lead items, environmental impact considerations, impact and interaction with materials and other chemicals in the system and local content requirements, both during construction and operation. This paper will look at these constraints with examples of some recent developments.
