The response of two engineering materials (Co-based X-40 and an austenitic cast iron BS 3468) to erosion-corrosion has been investigated in liquid-solid impingement conditions. The characteristics of the corrosion behavior of the materials in static and erosion-corrosion conditions have been compared and contrasted. It has been shown that on both materials the contribution to material degradation of corrosion and corrosion-related processes is significant and can account for in excess of 40% of the total material mass loss.
