In amine plants tris-hydroxyethylethylenediamine (THEED) is a common diethanolamine (DEA) degradation product that influences corrosion and reduces the effectiveness of DEA. THEED is a result of inadequate regeneration of CO2 heat flux and DEA. The DCP Midstream East Texas plant had high levels of THEED and saw results of the THEED corrosion. A review of the DEA degradation to THEED will be provided. Potential process solutions will be discussed. A review of DCP’s solution will be provided.
