The Caruthersville Bridge (I-155 Mississippi River Bridge) is an on-going project, which is the northern-most bridge over the Lower Mississippi River, with the combined flow of the Upper Mississippi and the Ohio River. Although there is an increased risk of coating incompatibility (stress, premature failure, etc.), over-coating this unique asymmetrical structure with a Calcium Sulfonate system was a viable option spear headed by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) and supported by the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT). This option provided both DOT’s with an initial low cost as well as extended the coating life of the bridge thus providing corrosion protection.
