Abstract
With increasing demand for high strength OCTG in HPHT subsalt and ultra-deep drilling projects C125 has been developed for mild sour service conditions. This paper details the findings of an evaluation of C125 performance in a variety of sour environments. C125 OCTG grades used in this study are from recently developed proprietary grades. The SSC resistance was evaluated using TM 0177-Method D. The testing environments are in Region 2 and 3 as specified in NACE MR0175/ISO 15156. The SSC resistance of C125 was found to be more affected by H2S partial pressure than by pH. The SSC resistance and behavior of C125 in mild sour environments was observed to be very different from that in severe sour environments.
Baseline microstructures and crack morphologies of C125 tested in severe and mild sour environments were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). An attempt will be made to illustrate the effects of microstructure on the cracking resistance in severe and mild sour environments.
