Solvent-based acrylic carbon paint anodes were installed on the north approach spans of the Yaquina Bay Bridge (Newport OR) in 1985 and performed well after 15 years. Anodes were inexpensive and repairs easy. Depolarization potentials are consistently above 100 with long-term current densities around 2 mA/m 2. Bond strength remains adequate.

Service life of any weapon system depends upon factors that impart long-term durability and robustness to its structure and subsystems, while sustaining its functional properties. The paper describes basic principles and guidelines on corrosion control and rules that could be easily followed to ascertain some specified service life and reduce total ownership costs.
The phenomenon of a potential-dependent chloride threshold (PDT) along with the corrosion macrocell coupling between active and passive steel assembly components allows to combine a corrosion initiation-propagation model to forecast the durability of reinforced concrete structures in marine service.
This paper discusses an innovative technique employed on the 2017 AETC Corrosion Control Study conducted on 19 NASA wind tunnel facilities located at three NASA Centers: Langley, Ames and Glenn Research Centers. There are many factors which need to be considered when making the decision to over coat an existing coating system. Foul-release coating systems were examined by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) to measure the degradation of coating dielectric properties in immersion. Three-inch by six-inch coated steel coupons were placed in dilute Harrison’s solution (DHS) to simulate constant immersion field conditions.
Performance properties of solvent-based urethane topcoats formulated with fluorinated polymers are reviewed. Fluoro-urethanes offer outstanding gloss and color retention, good chemical resistance, and excellent adhesion. The long coating service life of fluoro-urethanes reduces the frequency of maintenance work and subsequent downtime interruption.

A test methodology is shown for field application of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The method utilizes low-cost, accessible materials to secure a temporary solution cell to the infrastructure’s coated surface. A laptop computer provides the power source and operating system for the mobile potentiostat during EIS data collection. This data provides a quantitative measure of the coating condition. The objective of this work is to incorporate EIS testing into standard coatings inspection to estimate remaining service life for the intact coating, which improves coatings maintenance planning for facility owners.
