A steel surface has been properly prepared to a white metal blast and it looks great … to the naked eye at least. But is it? Why is a surface that has the correct profile and appears to be perfectly clean typically not good enough? A standard abrasive blast will give you the profile and visible cleanliness, but how clean is it? Testing is the only way to determine. That is testing for conductivity, chlorides, and any other contaminants.

The data produced in this study indicates that there are differences between the ICRI CSP comparator panels and TACM CSP comparator panels. Further, there are differences between taking direct measurements from known surfaces (i.e., the ICRI and TACM CSP panels) and obtaining indirect measurements from an epoxy putty casting of those same known surfaces. Therefore, it is important that the specifier indicate which method is to be used when qualitative or quantitative methods are invoked in the contract documents.
Anchor profile achieved during field blast cleaning operations is often found to be deeper than expected, even when available information suggests the size of the abrasive selected was appropriate. Three parameters long identified as influencing anchor profile depth were evaluated under laboratory conditions.
O foco desta norma é o jateamento abrasivo brush-off.
