Wastewater collection and treatment systems face a more serious corrosion problem today than in the past. There are several reasons for this, including odor control, reduced I&I, chemical composition of sewage, an increase in the retention time, and concrete that is not of the same quality as it was only 30 years ago.
There are many companies focusing on the emerging wind generation maintenance market. As the segment matures there has been a shift to more traditional industrial access methods that provide improved cost structure, better access for workers, improved safety and higher production rates. This discussion will focus on new suspended platform configurations and methods that have been designed for the wind tower and blade access market, improving the safety, quality, productivity and profitability for the maintenance contractor.

Over the years, operators have worked with manual and automatic blast equipment with its associated dust collection arrangements. The industry is highly competitive, and control on operating costs is critical. Therefore, coaters are always on the lookout for ways to tune their process by lowering costs and increasing productivity.

Therefore, coaters are always on the lookout for ways to tune their process and increase productivity.
Insulative coatings are prompting significant interest with increasing environmental and safety awareness and sensitivity to energy efficiency. Aerogels are the best thermal insulators in the world. Cabot’s aerogel has a thermal conductivity of 12mW/m-K (compared to still air or PU foam at 26mW/m-K) and is currently being used extensively in day lighting and oil & gas applications.
Model building codes and standards have begun adopting new energy efficiency requirements for building envelopes, including more quantifiable assessment of the air permeance characteristics of the materials and assemblies used in the building envelope. This research effort was initiated to understand and quantify the air leakage mechanisms of single wythe concrete masonry construction, which is commonly used in exterior building envelopes.
The presentation will describe the frustrations and problems architects experience because of insufficient or non-existent standards governing architectural coating materials and practices. Areas where standards need to be written or upgraded will be named and discussed.
