Nickel-base alloys designed for elevated temperature service can offer a high degree of mechanical integrity and corrosion resistance for extended service. Proper selection of a material for a particular application involves consideration of several important factors. Corrosion resistance is a major deciding factor and many relevant corrosion modes must be consideredsuch as oxidation carburization metal dusting nitridation sulfidation and attack by halide salts and gaseous halogen-containing species.Mechanical properties are an important consideration as well and would include elevated temperature tensile rupture and creep strength as well as fatigue strength and toughness. Fabrication issues associated with the application of these material in a range of intermediate and high temperature service environments are also considered. This paper provides a summary of high temperature corrosion properties for a range of high temperature nickel base alloys including recent alloy developments with high temperature mechanical and corrosion information.
