HISTORICAL DOCUMENT. Requirements for "Near-White Metal" - one of five levels of cleanliness of steel surfaces achieved by blast cleaning with the use of abrasives. (White Metal, Near-White Metal, Commercial, Industrial, Brush Off)
This standard defines the process for preparing a carbon steel surface to the near-white metal degree of surface cleanliness using a dry abrasive blast method of cleaning. It is intended for use by coating or lining specifiers, applicators, inspectors, or others whose responsibility is to specify a standard degree of surface cleanliness for carbon steel surfaces to be achieved by dry abrasive blast cleaning. or to prepare or inspect carbon steel to conform to defined requirements.
The primary functions of blast cleaning before coating are
a) to remove material from the surface that can cause early failure of the coating, and
b) to obtain a suitable surface profile (roughness) to enhance the adhesion of the new coating system.
The six degrees of dry abrasive blast cleaning of carbon steel surfaces are:

SSPC-SP18
This AMPP standard covers the preparation of concrete surfaces before the application of protective coating or lining systems. This standard should be used by specifiers, applicators, inspectors, and others who are responsible for defining a standard degree of cleanliness, strength, profile, and dryness of prepared concrete surfaces.

This visual comparator is used with the latest version of NACE SP0178 (sold separately), mentioned in Appendix C, to determine whether welds are suitable for coating. This durable T Grade ABS plastic weld replica is molded from actual welds and includes 14 welds for comparison of various degrees of surface finishing (full-seam welds, skip welds, butt welds, lap welds, and others). Use of this visual aid will facilitate weld inspection by the end user.
Measurement techniques and precautions commonly on underground tanks to determine if compliance with a specific criterion has been achieved.
Test methods to evaluate ballast water tank coatings on offshore rigs - tension leg platforms (TLPs), semi-submersible platforms, or floating production and storage offloading systems (FPSOs).
This standard provides a test method to evaluate coatings containing conductive carbon additives for use as an anode on atmospherically exposed reinforced concrete.
Test method to evaluate coatings w/conductive carbon pigmentation as Cathodic Protection (CP) anodes on atmospherically exposed reinforced concrete. Anode coatings are not to provide a protective barrier. HISTORICAL DOCUMENT
