Ahmadi Kuwait ABSTRACT Kuwait is the 5th largest oil producer in the world with a current crude oil production of ~2.5 million barrels per day which represents about 9% of the world’s oil. The country’s goal is to increase the production to 4 million barrels per day by the year 2020. The Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) is the primary national organization responsible for exploration drilling production and processing of the crude. The number and length of crude pipelines as well as the pipelines for other products (condensate gas and water) have cumulatively grown to about 4750 km over the last 60 years. ILI pigging data has indicated internal corrosion damage in some pipelines. Coupon corrosion data along with fluid analysis and bacteria analysis data from various locations have in general confirmed internal corrosion damage in low spots. A comprehensive Corrosion Management Plan for the Pipeline Network System has been established involving the following: (a) Internal Corrosion Monitoring to assess the internal corrosion status of the pipeline including the occurrence of microbially influenced corrosion (MIC) (b) External corrosion protection with the help of coatings and cathodic protection (CP) and (c) Periodic pigging operations for internal cleaning. The present paper will discuss the salient features of the Corrosion Management Plan and its implementation. Key Words: Corrosion Monitoring Corrosion Management Pipeline Network
