Three volatile corrosion inhibitors were developed by the reaction of ethanol-amine and organic acids such as benzoic acid cinnamic acid and salicylic acid. Their inhibiting action was evaluated on corrosion of mild steel under a thin film electrolyte consisting of simulated water by potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance methods. The results of polarization study showed that the reaction product of ethanol amine and benzoic acid ethanolanol amine and salicylic are mixed inhibitors. The reaction product of ethanolamine and cinnamic acid predominantly acted as anodic inhibitor. The values of rct obtained from impedance plots distinctly increased in presence of inhibitors which further corroborated that all the three inhibitors are effective inhibitors for corrosion of mild steel.
