In 2014, Caltrans decided to update the coating formulation, seeking to provide better performance properties. As part of the evaluation process a Fluoroethylene Vinyl Ether Emulsion (FEVE) resin was included in one of the potential formulations. The author will discuss reformulation of Caltrans coatings utilizing FEVE technology comparing its properties with other types of selected coatings and formulations using QUV and cyclic prohesion for accelerated weathering.
