Life time performance of anticorrosion coatingsAuthor: Marcia Navarro Seal for LifeHeat Shrink sleeve coatings technology based on radiation cross linking of Polyethylene and Polypropylene sheet in combination with multiple types of adhesive Chemistries. Heat Shrink sleeves have been and continue to be used corrosion protection for oil gas water and District heating pipelines. Heat Shrink sleeves have proven track record and performance as a corrosion coating for field joint coatings; pipeline specials; and used as sealing systems in district cooling and heating applications. This paper addresses the laboratory studies of the long term thermal oxidative and hydrolytic stability of radiation cross-linked polyolefins as used in Heat Shrink sleeves. Studies will be presented on the results of long term aging and predicted life expectancy based upon Arrenheius plots. Analytical and Rheological testing will be discussed as test methods to validate and predict long term stability and projected life expectancy for in-service on operating pipelines.
