As a complement to the substantial research and development effort dedicated to the understanding of H2S + CO2 corrosion mechanism Operators have an additional responsibility to document their field experience of this corrosion mechanism. This experience is needed to substantiate the understanding with respect to the diverse basis of laboratory testing results. This is the main objective of this paper in continuation of an effort started in 2006.A review is first made on what has been either consolidated or modified from earlier steps with respect to key and secondary factors of the H2S + CO2 corrosion. An emphasis is then given to new lessons learned about this corrosion mechanism and on its mitigation particularly with regard to the effect of methanol and on the influence of flow regime.A particular experience on the use of HDPE lined pipelines for H2S + CO2 corrosion mitigation is also included.
