High corrosion resistant Ni-alloys such as N010276 and N06022 are widely used in severe corrosive environment of chemical plants. To achieve high corrosion resistance these alloys contain a large amount of rich elements such as molybdenum (Mo) and nickel which results in higher material cost.

In this study the effect of copper (Cu) addition as a substitute of Mo on wet corrosion resistance of Ni-alloy is investigated. The alloy with 3% Cu and 6% Mo shows excellent corrosion resistance in both oxidizing and reducing acids. Effect of Cu addition to improve corrosion resistance is discussed with the results of electrochemical measurement and surface analysis.

Field evaluation of corrosion resistance on developed alloy (N06845) is also conducted in the commercial chemical plant for 1 year. N06845 shows comparable corrosion resistance to conventional Ni alloys in sulfuric acid containing media and it is expected that N06845 is applicable to various corrosive parts in chemical plants.
