EVALUATION OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ONLINE CORROSION MONITORING UTLIZING ER LPR COUPON WITHIN HYDROCARBON SYSTEMSCorrosion monitoring is one of the most important elements of an effective corrosion management plan. It provides the basis for an effective corrosion mitigation program and whether corrosion damage is occurring within the monitored circuit. The corrosion monitoring strategy adopted in our company Kuwait Oil Company (KOC)is to utilize coupon as the primary technique for long-term corrosion trends and using Electrical resistance probe to monitor the process fluids and provide short term corrosion indication. Linear Polarization Probes are used in water systems and oil systems with high and continuous water cuts.In our company Internal Corrosion Monitoring activities are carried out in all our facilities which consists of more than 2200 online corrosion monitoring locations that are distributed over 22 Crude Processing Plants (or Gathering Centers) 5 Gas Processing Plants (or Booster Stations); 3 Effluent Water Disposal Plants Seawater Treatment and Injection Plant a vast network of pipelines carrying different products as well as Early Production Facilities. In many cases erratic readings from ER and LPR probes are experienced. This paper will focus on the effectiveness of ER and LPR probes techniques and their orientations in representative streams in order to draw conclusion on most effective uses for such techniques. During this study LPR ER probes and coupons are installed in 3 process streams which include wet crude oil effluent water and brackish water streams.Key words: Internal Corrosion Monitoring electrochemical Electrical resistance probe LPR coupon
