Forensic Corrosion Engineering (FCE) seeks to understand the contributing causes and underlying mechanisms of corrosion damage or ultimately failure and leverage this knowledge through the framework of a Corrosion Management System to mitigate risk resulting from the corrosion threat. Essential elements of the FCE approach which include integrating the disciplines of chemistry corrosion/materials science microbiology and oil and gas operations are also discussed.
