Glassflake filled polyester vinyl-ester and epoxy systems have proven track records of long term corrosion protection even in aggressive service applications with design and actual life for many applications being measured in decades rather than years. Capital equipment can often be refurbished using glassflake linings without the need for replacement parts and at a fraction of the replacement cost. On new equipment carbon steel is often being used with glassflake linings for corrosion protection as a very cost-effective alternative to metallurgical solutions. With proven and design lives of in excess of 30 years glassflake linings have been used extensively in nuclear power-stations. The ability to post-machine these materials allow their use in critical rotating equipment such as pumps valves and strainers as well as all types of static immersed and non immersed equipment. This paper will review some of the successful track records and areas of work.
