In order to understand irradiation assisted stress corrosion cracking (IASCC) mechanism and to establish strategies for IASCC mitigation crack growth data were obtained on neutron-irradiated stainless steels with solute additions. These alloys include PS02 (316L+Hf 9.6 dpa) IP01 (304 -C+P 4.4 dpa) and MS01 (304+Ti 10.7 dpa). The specimens were 8 mm round compact tension (RCT) type which were irradiated in BOR-60 fast reactor. At the University of Michigan crack growth rate (CGR) tests were conducted under constant K conditions in BWR NWC BWR HWC and PWR water at 288°C and 320°C. In addition to the CGR data the fracture surfaces were examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to identify the path of crack growth and the evidence of solute addition. Comparing to the data acquired through cooperative IASCC research (CIR) program on the solution annealed commercial alloys and the reference high purity alloy the role of solute addition on IASCC growth was addressed. Especially the effect of hafnium and titanium addition on IASCC growth was discussed.
