Development of Safety Monitoring and Remote Control System for Blasting Workers

Safety monitoring system for abrasive blast cleaning workers in the ship buildi ng industries has been developed in order to secure safety of the workers. The developed system is composed of three sub-systems; safety monitoring system, remote control system, and specialized communication system. Firstly, safety monitoring system is featured by emergency call signaling, vibration sensing and location check function for blast cleaning workers in the blasting cell. Secondly, remote control system of blasting nozzle is integrated with the safety system in order to cut compressed air on emergency. Thirdly, special bone conduction ear-set communication system with neck microphone is developed in order to improve workers voice communication environment. It is expected that the safety system will make a contribution to the improvement in productivity and quality of the steel preparation as well as workers safety enhancement. In this paper, details of the safety monitoring and remote control system in the ship yard’s blasting cell are discussed.
