This paper will contrast the way engineers were introduced into corrosion engineering careers 25 years ago versus today. Companies today are relying less on formal internal multi-year programs and more on understanding technical standards completing certification training and leveraging mentoring opportunities available either internally or through organizations like NACE. This paper will review the universities altering their curricula to produce young talent interested in the field of corrosion and pipeline integrity management share the benefits of mentoring and propose strategies for keeping young professionals in this field throughout their careers.
