Fiberglass reinforced plastics (FRP) made from epoxy vinyl ester resin is the preferred material of construction for piping ductwork tanks hoods scrubbers and stacks in pulp and paper processing plants. The processing of wood to paper requires the use of highly corrosive chemicals that have proven to be far too harsh for conventional materials such as stainless steel and tile linings. Furthermore FRP offers an economical alternative to high nickel alloys and other specialty metals at a significantly lower cost. The purpose of this paper will be to explore the diverse applications of FRP in pulp and paper processing and compare it to metal alternatives
