The historic use of bare 316 stainless tubing on offshore topsides has suffered from multiple failures across several operators and multiple geographic regions. Tubing leaks have been caused by external corrosion vibration and fitting leaks. Selected case histories of leaks will be presented. Properly designed polymer jacketed 316 stainless steel tubing offers an economical and reliable solution to prevent failure. Lower capital cost can also be realized when the design incorporates bundling of multiple tubes into single flat packs. Laboratory corrosion testing results of jacketed tubing will be presented. Benefits such as safety improvements tray space cost savings and faster installation will be discussed. Product applications and successful installations will be highlighted.
