The development of a prototype PC-based aircraft corrosion surveillance information module is described. The need for such a product has arisen from corrosion problems in aging military aircraft, requiring raised awareness and training in this field. The advantageous features of the system include information distribution possibilities over the Internet or local networks. In this manner information can be delivered to a wide target audience, made up of both managers in central administration and operational personnel at the bases. The contents of this module can be classified as basic corrosion educational material, data collected at different locations and algorithms to process the data into information of higher value. The inclusion of such algorithms in the program code is an important advancement over “standard” corrosion information placed on the web. The development of this module has taken place in the context of a wider web-based information system on materials degradation in aging aircraft.
