This paper reviewed the current literature concerning the serviceability of conventional and modified 13Cr tubulars in oil and gas production environments. The serviceability in sour environments was divided into the variables which affect is corrosion performance, namely system pH, chlorides, temperature and H2S/CO2. At low temperatures, SSC is of primary concern. At elevated temperatures (> 100 °C), SSC is generally not a problem. In this regime, mass loss corrosion and localized attack dictate the serviceability. Mass loss corrosion increases with a decrease in pH and in general increase with increases in temperature, H2S and CO2 partial pressures. Susceptibility to localized corrosion was found to be highest at intermediate temperatures in the vicinity of 150 °C. Keywords: 13 Cr, martensitic stainless steels, serviceability, pH, temperature, chlorides, H2S, CO2, general corrosion, localized corrosion
